(WXYZ) — A very rare find is about to get the ultimate makeover!

What is believed to be the first prototype of the AMC AMX/3, will be shown at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois on November 23 and 24.

Classic Design Concepts of Milford plans to do a complete top-to-bottom restoration of the AMX/3. The mid-engine sports car is one of the most coveted collectibles in the world. Fewer than 10 prototypes were ever built and the car was never put into production.

The prototype has spent most of its life in Michigan barns after being brought to the United States in the early 1970s, when it was shipped to AMC in Detroit. Before that, it sat in the shop of prototype maker Bizzarrini in Turin, Italy.

During its time in Michigan, it sat largely untouched, except for the addition of a 390 motor.

It was recently sold to new owners by the family of the man who purchased it from AMC.

Classic Design Concepts will now conduct a top-to-bottom restoration of the car. “Arguably the rarest American muscle car in existence” George Huisman Classic Design Concepts of Michigan
