Six different recall petitions filed against Warren Mayor Jim Fouts were rejected by the Macomb County Election Commission during a special hearing on Monday afternoon.
Six recalls against the mayor have been filed this month.
Fouts has been under fire since audio tapes surfaced with a person believed to be the mayor making racist and sexist remarks. One audio tape has recordings of the person, allegedly Fouts, making fun of the mentally challenged. Another tape allegedly captures Fouts making degrading comments about black people and women.
A Warren resident, Joseph Hunt, who filed multiple petitions submitted a report made by an expert who used computer programs to analyze their tapes - and said they appear to be legitimate.
The mayor has said they were manufactured by his enemies. The mayor has 31 months remaining on his current 4-year term.
The three-person commission reviewed the petitions to decide if the issue should be placed on the ballot for voters to decide on.
Mayor Fouts declined comment on these latest developments.
On Thursday, the mayor is expected to deliver the State of the City Address.
