DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 13-year-old boy is dead and an older teen is injured following a shooting on Detroit's east side. Police said the older teenage boy is 17 or 18.
The double shooting happened around 5 p.m. in the 13900 block of Frankfort, near E. Warren Avenue and Chalmers Street.
Detroit police Chief James White said they were standing in front of a home when they were approached by two armed suspects. They were shot by the two who then left the scene.
The chief said the suspects are thought to be teenagers.
“We’re looking at everything. We’ve got two suspects that are out. We think they’re both in their teens. Both armed. Considered armed and dangerous," White explained.
He also said they don't have much of a description to go on, but they were wearing blue jeans and dark-colored clothing.
“It’s not random, but we don’t know the connection yet," White said.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information to come forward. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as Michigan State Police and tracking dogs were on scene assisting. Police are also working to retrieve Ring surveillance footage for clues.
“At the end of the day, we’ve got a 13-year-old child that has been murdered in our city and that should be a problem for everybody, and we need everyone that knows something about it to let us know so that we can get to the bottom of it and make an arrest and get this violent person off the street," the chief said.
