Detroit police are searching for a man who shot and robbed another man at a west side gas station.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clark station at 13330 Dexter. The incident was all caught on surveillance video.

Investigators say the suspect is dangerous, he planned ahead and he’s armed. He shot the victim three times for the gold chain necklace around the victim's neck.

"Pretty much a complete disregard for human life for something of minimal value,” said Capt. Nick Kyriacou with Detroit Police Department.

The suspect parked his gold Chevy Cruze out of sight of the gas station and walked up from behind.

"He must have scoped out this area in advance, because he parked on Waverly with the vehicle out of sight of anybody at the gas station and approaches on foot from the blind side of the gas station,” said Kyriacou.

He approached the victim while he’s walking back to his car from inside the gas station.

"This guy is very methodical and determined in the way he perpetrated that crime, so it presents a very grave danger to the citizens of Detroit,” said Kyriacou.

Police believe this was a random act and it was a split second decision to target that victim.

The suspect grabbed the man, they scuffled, the suspect shot him three times and then reached down and stole the victim’s gold chain necklace.

"...very disturbingly calm as he walks away from the scene,” said Kyriacou.

The victim is in critical condition.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) SPEAK-UP.
