Former hostage reunited with family at Metro

Posted

A Dearborn Heights man who was freed after being held for months in Yemen has arrived home.

Sam Farran's family began gathering at Metro Airport around 10:00 p.m. Farran's flight was scheduled to arrive just after 10:45 p.m. However, the plane landed early.

Once the plane landed, the FBI brought Farran to the departure area, where his family waited.

It's been six long months in Yemen for the 54-year old from Dearborn Heights. The security consultant was held hostage by rebel forces along with fellow American - 45-year-old Scott Darden.

When the uprising started, Darden called Farran for help getting out of there. The two knew each other. They were captured trying to flee the war torn country.

Darden and Farran were flown to Oman after their release Sunday. Another American is still being held hostage.

It was difficult to obtain the release of Darden and Farren because of the Rebels' refusal to cooperate and violence in the area.
