DETROIT (WXYZ) — For Reverend Dr. Thomas Jackson Sr. of Christ Love Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, this week’s ice cold weather is a time to give back.

“No one should have to struggle outside and be hungry, and that’s why we’ve opened our doors,” says Jackson Sr.

For the next 3 days, the church located at the corner of Grand River & Meyers will be making hot soup and setting up air mattresses for those in need.

“We’re going to do the best we can to satisfy the need and we’ve got food that can also take with them,” says one volunteer.

Families with kids are also welcome each day from 5 pm to 7 am.

Anyone who would like to donate food or other items to help, is also encouraged to drop off donations at the church anytime.

“We hope to show folks that we love them and it doesn’t matter what faith that they come from or even if they don’t attend a church. I have enough faith to know we are doing the right thing by opening our doors” says Jackson Sr.
