As the world remembers Prince, a Detroit theater has announced they plan to screen his film Purple Rain next week.

Cinema Detroit, located at 4126 3rd Street in Midtown, will play the movie five times next week, the theater's co-founder said on Facebook.

"I thought it was the right thing to do," said Cinema Detroit's Paula Guthat in her Facebook post.

The screenings of Purple Rain will begin Monday.

Purple Rain first hit theater screens in 1984 and earned Prince an Academy Award. It's a fictitious version of his own life story, told as he was becoming a music superstar.

"Dearly beloved, we will gather here next week to celebrate this thing called ?#‎Prince?'s life," the theater said on Facebook. "PURPLE RAIN starts Monday, April 25. Details to follow," they said in a post that also include the film's original trailer.
