For the very first time Detroit was named in the annual list of top 25 places for jobs! Created by recruiting company Glassdoor - the list factors in things like salary and work life balance and it's a list making national headlines.
It's a pretty big deal, for some people because it validates what they already know - Detroit is a great place to work! But more than that, the recognition could have economic development domino effect.
From live music, to food trucks, Campus Martius is just one of the reasons people we spoke with love working in downtown Detroit.
"I just started this week and it's amazing!" exclaims Benjamin Kraft.
"This is my first month here and I am ecstatic!" says Jessica Fitzsimmons.
So learning Detroit has been named the 12th best city in the nation for jobs, makes a lot of sense.
"When I first started every one was like 'Ooooh you're in Detroit ...' now it's like 'Oh! You're in Detroit! I hear great things!" says Jameson Shaw.
Employment agency Glassdoor complied the list factoring in elements like cost of living, work/life balance, the median base salary - which in Detroit is $61,500 - and the number of available jobs. There's 59,494 of those in Detroit.
Being recognized on a national level could help fill those jobs says Jeanette Pierce with the Detroit Experience Factory Welcome Center.
"We work with a lot of companies to help them recruit talent and this will really help, because even though we say we live here, we work here and love it, but having some 3rd party, national news source say it, just helps reinforce what we're saying all the time," says Pierce.
The more skilled and trained people come to work in Detroit, the more businesses will consider relocating and the more jobs will be created - and so on and so on. It's just one more catalyst keeping the economic momentum going here in Detroit.
