Detroit police have a new assistant chief. Police Chief James Craig made the announcement on Friday after celebrating 32 new graduates of the Detroit Police Academy.
He exchanged salutes with Arnold Williams and officially dubbed him as assistant chief.
Williams said he found out about the job this past Tuesday and hopes to exceed expectations.
He made the grounds greeting various colleagues who wished him well.
Williams had 19 years with Detroit police and is a retired captain with the Army National Guard.
The announcement was made just over two months after former Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt announced his retirement.Craig
says two other important police jobs will be filled soon as well, including a commander and deputy chief.
