Detroiters are mourning the loss of city champion Delores Bennett

Detroiters are mourning the loss of community leader Delores Bennett, founder of North End Youth Improvement Council (NEYIC) and the Adopt A Child Program.
 
Mrs. Bennett passed away on Monday, February 6. 
 
Mrs. Bennett was a true ambassador and champion of Detroit and urban children and youth. The celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 16th at the historic New Mt Moriah Baptist Church. It's located at 586 Owen Ave. in  Detroit.

Delores Bennett is the founder of the Northend Youth Improvement Council in Detroit, and has served tens of thousands of local children and youth.  Her Adopt A Child Program alone serves thousands of families at the annual Christmas program with thousands of partners both individuals, corporations and foundations.
 
Her legacy includes advocating the City of Detroit under the Coleman Young administration to develop a comprehensive drug treatment strategy for the city of Detroit which became a national model.
