DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police are searching for the man who tried to kidnap a 5-year-old girl Sunday afternoon on Wheelock near Lafayette in southwest Detroit.
Part of the attempted abduction was caught on a nearby store's surveillance camera.
The girl and her 11-year-old sister were outside playing when a man, who had been walking across the street, suddenly crossed the street and headed for the girls.
The girls run into a backyard and the man can be seen chasing after them.
In the backyard, police say the man tried to get the little girl over a fence, but her big sister yelled out.
7 Action News talked to the father of the girls by phone Monday.
"She said she started screaming at the guy and told the guy they can't leave the backyard. And the guy finally dropped her and gave her back," he said.
Police say the suspect is described as a young white man, 15 to 20-years-old, with a brown goatee. He stands about 5'7" tall and was wearing blue jeans. He also had what appeared to be two phone charging cords around his neck - a red one and a green one.
Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. And you will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
