Detroit police are still searching for the person or people responsible for shooting and killing a young father on Thursday night.
It happened around 7:00 p.m. along Rosa Parks near the Boston Edison District.
Twenty-seven-year-old Derick Blanton was driving a van when he was killed. Investigators say his girlfriend and two kids were with him in the van.
Blanton's uncle told 7 Action News, "It doesn't make any sense. It's all for nothing. I don't know the whole story, there wasn't no need for that to happen."
Blanton's 19-year-old girlfriend was also shot, but she survived.
Family members say Blanton's 6-year-old son was taken to the hospital because of the trauma he witnessed.
Blanton's godfather added, "He went from being in shock, to having a seizure. He actually had to see his father like that."
DPD is asking anyone with information on the shooting to give them a call. You can remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
