A large protest is underway outside the the State of Michigan Building, which is also known as Cadillac Place, on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit's New Center area.
Video from Chopper 7 shows a large crowd has gathered outside the building.
The protest has been organized by the Fight for $15 movement and the Black Lives Matter movement as part of a two dozen city "Fight Racisim, Raise Pay" protest event.
It comes on the 49th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the 50th anniversary of his Beyond Vietnam speech.
The protest, which is part of a group of protest nationwide, is part of a lead up to a march that will end at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, where Dr. King was killed in 1968.
