We’re counting down the days until the Susan g. Komen Race for the Cure Detroit.
It’s this Saturday at Comerica Park.
WXYZ is a proud media partner for this event and our own Alicia Smith emceed a big kick-off rally today at Ford World Headquarters.
With a festive beat of the drums and team members flaunting their pink pride, Ford Motor Company’s 1,000 strong race for the cure team rallied in the lobby of the headquarters.
Some, like Cerita Douglas, are driven to take part.
She says, “18 years a survivor and unfortunately I lost my mother and my grandmother to breast cancer, so being able to fight and survive means a lot to me."
Douglas started “Team Stephanie’s Soldiers” to honor the wife of her co-worker Eric James, who lost her battle to breast cancer.
Their goal and that of team ford is to continue to make a difference in the fight against the disease.
Ford has been raising funds to give to breast cancer patients and survivors through the company’s Warriors in Pink apparel. The latest line of merchandise was unveiled during a fashion show at the event.
Even the guys got involved and the money benefits people here in metro Detroit.
