Ata Dabish, 44, a former police officer, left the Detroit Police Department after he was reportedly injured on the job. But now, the Shelby Township man has been convicted of multiple counts of arson and conspiracy in a criminal enterprise.

And court records show the crimes, that involved three other men, all boiled down to setting fires for insurance money.

The brother of Ata Dabish, Kelly Dabish, 35, was also convicted in the case along with Yas Yatoma, 41, and Devin Donair-Donte Pettway, 25.

The scheme reportedly netted about $1,000,000 in insurance money.

An additional $1,000,000 was expected to be paid out in insurance claims but the checks were halted by the investigation by the Detroit Police and Fire Arson Unit.

Ata and Pettway are set to be sentenced on January 19, 2018. Kelly and Yatoma will be sentenced on February 9.
