Gouging at parking lots in downtown Detroit on Detroit Tigers Opening Day

Posted

We did our homework for this report. On Wednesday we came downtown and documented the prices for parking near Comerica Park.

Then we compared them to today, Opening Day. We found them on average 5 times more.

The City of Detroit requires prices to be on display. One popular lot on Madison was $10 on Wednesday. Today $50.

And the price on Wednesday was on display next to the street. Today the higher price was on display on a building at the center of the lot.

The lot at the Music Hall was $10 on Wednesday and today it opened at $50. When it didn’t get a lot of love the price was lowered to $20.

The big garage next to the Hockeytown restaurant was $5 on Wednesday, $25 today and some people paid $40 to guarantee a spot.

The parking lot at the door the stadium is reserved for handicapped. On Wednesday it was $5 and on game day $25.
