A historic Detroit church is undergoing a $530,000 renovation.

Since 1892, the church at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Grand River and Trumbull has been serving the needs of the people in the community.

Now known as, Spirit of Hope, has been a beacon to those in need. Yet, maintaining an aging building comes with challenges. Repairs and renovations can be costly.

When church leaders decided to create a new early childhood and family center, they knew it would come with a hefty price tag.

The cost didn't derail their dreams. Partnerships were forged, money was raised and work got underway.

The childhood center will provide educational services for 50 kids. $90,000 is still needed.
