Man accused of stealing weapons from wounded off-duty Detroit police officer

A 38-year-old man was taken into custody by Detroit Police on Nov. 21 in connection to an incident involving the shooting of an off-duty cop.

On June 4, in the 2000 block of Gratiot, an off-duty officer was wounded in an exchange of gunfire during an attempted robbery by a 22-year-old male suspect.

As a result, the suspect was fatally wounded and the officer sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds to the body.

Upon the officer collapsing to the ground, Lloyd Love pulled up to the location. After exiting his vehicle, Love approached the off-duty officer and deceased suspect, took their weapons and fled.

After an investigation by DPD, Love was identified, located and arrested on Nov. 21 in Southfield.

Love was charged with the following: Larceny from Person, Felony in Possession, Habitual Offender-Fourth Offense, 2 Counts of Weapons-Firearms-Larceny and 4 counts of Felony Firearm.

His bond is set at $500,000.
