As a young officer, Collin Rose did more than keep people safe. He had a profound impact on the community both at and around Wayne State University.
In a new video depicting him challenging a 13-year-old to a foot race, Rose's spirit shines.
"He was a new friend, and someone who I will miss," says Kameren Greene.
Greene says Rose lost the race, but gained a friend in him.
Greene is among many kids in the area who got to know 29-year-old Officer Rose.
After Rose's death Wednesday in the line of duty, many have come forward to say he changed how they viewed police.
"He showed the kids that they didn't have to be scared of police, and most officers are good people," says parent Parris Penock.
Above all, Collin Rose had a love for his community and Detroit's youth. His legacy will live on in the young hearts of many he touched.
"It's sad that he lost his life, and we lost a good friend," says Greene.
