Police need your help to identify a Jane Doe who was sexually assaulted, murdered and thrown in a dumpster like trash.

It happened on Detroit's east side 31 years ago. The woman's body was found on Harper Avenue on February 10, 1987.

Now, police need your help to find her killer and identify the victim. Michigan State Police and 7 Action News are working to give this Jane Doe a name.

The details are gruesome, horrific and sad. The evidence that law enforcement does have will take you more than 30 years back in time.

Police say the woman was sexually assaulted, stabbed multiple times and her throat was slit from ear to ear.

Police have been able to obtain both fingerprints and dental records from the body, following an exhumation. However, there was insufficient DNA to make a match.

She is described as having been 5'6" tall and weighing 114 pounds. She was between 18 and 20-years-old, which means she would have been 49 to 51-years-old today.

She had two silver toned, costume jewelry rings, with crystal looking stones.

The woman did have another identifying feature, as police found an episiotomy scar that indicated that she had given birth 8 weeks to one year before her brutal murder.
