Racially charged fliers found at the University of Michigan

Students on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor are reacting tonight to some racist flyers that target African American students.

The university is quickly condemning the material.

College campuses are a place where differing opinions are welcome, but students I spoke with say not these types.

Someone posted the racially charged flyers inside the Mason and Haven Hall buildings on campus.

The flyers are titled Why White Women Shouldn’t Date Black Men.

Word of the flyers is spreading across campus and so is the outrage.

U-of-M Public Affairs responded immediately by tweeting a message to students -- right after university officials removed the racially insensitive material from the buildings.

It reads in part: “Messages of racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination have no place at the University of Michigan. Targeted attacks against groups of people serve only to tear apart our university community.”

For some it’s an acceptable response from administrators to some very unacceptable behavior.

Some students on campus say it’s ironic that someone had the nerve to post such uneducated material in a place of high education.

The university wants to warn students if they see anything like this to report it immediately.
