Teen who survived Detroit plane crash continues to recover, needs help with bills

Seventeen-year-old plane crash survivor Peyton Boaz was seen on video escaping from a tragic scene near Detroit City Airport in June.

The crash claimed the life of his father Greg and his father’s wife, Julie.

“We feel it's a miracle Peyton survived. He was only a couple feet behind them,” says cousin Danny Boaz.

His cousin Rita Bruce also says, “We are still dealing with his lungs, and have to take it one day at a time.”

The Boaz family says it’s still unknown when Peyton can be released from the hospital, after this 6-week ordeal.

“They just took the tubes out, and he's finally moving around more. But, we aren't sure when he can come home,” says Rita.

Investigators say problems with the landing gear and a fuel shortage continue to be considered factors in the crash.

Since June, a flood of donations has poured in to help cover Peyton’s medical bills, which relatives say have made a tremendous difference.

“We can't thank people enough. They've made a huge difference because his mother has two kids and bills are piling up” says Danny.
