A Howell teen is behind bars, being held on a $1,000,000 bond, charged with multiple counts  of sexual assault, extortion and child pornography.

Seventeen-year-old Scott Minton went to school at Howell High and he's accused of sexually assaulting a girl he went to school with.

Police say it didn't happen at the school, but on a property very nearby.

Minton was one of many students roaming the halls at Howell High School  - a big fan of sports according to his Facebook page

Now the teen is getting a different education - behind bars at the Livingston County Jail, charged with 9 felonies

Court documents say Minton used extortion to force a 16-year-old girl he attended school with to perform sexual acts multiple times between April and May of 2017.

He's also accused of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive material.

Police say the incidents happened on a property adjacent to the high school. The school district would not comment on the case.

Both suspect and victim were 16-years-old at the time, but the judge is trying Minton as an adult and holding him on a one million dollar bond.

The victim in this case is a minor; so many details including her name are not being released.

If Minton is able to post the million-dollar bond, he will not be allowed to contact the school or use social media and he will have to wear a GPS tether.

His next hearing is on September 20th.

Because of his age, we don't know if he has a juvenile record.

I've reached out to Scott Minton’s family, but have not yet heard back.

Students and neighbors did not want to talk on camera, but one neighbor says she's seen him mowing the lawn and riding his bike - nothing that would make her think he was capable of these crimes.
