Eastbound I-94 has reopened at I-696 after a criminal investigation, according to Michigan State Police.
According to MSP, a driver told troopers that road debris went through the windshield and injured the passenger. Troopers said the driver's story didn't add up with evidence found on scene.
Police said the driver also made statements that he and the passenger just bought heroin in Detroit.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition. MSP Lt. Michael Shaw said the victim may be brain dead.
The driver is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
