Macomb County announces lawsuit against county clerk Karen Spranger

Posted

In addition to questions over job performance, there's now another question Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger will have to answer to.

Did she really live at the address she said she did back on April 6, 2016?

That's whats driving a new lawsuit, filed by Macomb county, alleging Spranger may have lied on an affidavit issued in April of last year when she filed for office as clerk.

That affidavit said she lived at an address in the city of Warren, but the suit alleges there's enough evidence to believe otherwise.

Macomb county executive Mark Hackel and his team say this suit only addresses the civil aspect of the matter. Another investigation continues regarding whether Spranger committed perjury, and whether she should be charged criminally.

Spranger's attorney, Frank Cusumano is pushing back today, arguing the evidence that links his client to the home in question is clear.

"She receives her mail there. She's registered to vote there. Her drivers license is registered at that location," he said, coming to her defense.

Cusumano says the county didn't have 24 hours surveillance on the home, and therefore, he argues there's no way to prove she didn't live there.
