Ex-Oak Park employee charged with embezzlement

Posted

Investigators say a deputy clerk and her husband embezzled more than $430,000 from Oak Park. The deputy clerk is no longer working for the city.

Stephanie and Michael Sumner were arraigned in court on Friday. Stephanie was charged with two counts of embezzlement over $100,000 and one count of embezzlement over $20,000 but less than $50,000. Her husband also faces five embezzlement charges.

A judge entered a not-guilty plea for both of them.

Stephanie was fired in March after she worked for the city for three years. The city manager said all of the money has been replaced by an insurer.
