A man accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl in a motel in Southfield is facing several child pornography charges.

On Aug. 27, Robert Donald Gordon's Indiana license plate was found in the parking lot of the Marvin Garden Inn, where police were responding to a welfare check for a 16-year-old girl.

Her father contacted the police because of social media posts that led him to believe she was at the inn in Southfield with a middle aged man from Indiana.

Gordon was staying in room #103. Officers knocked, but received no answer.

They obtained a room key and entered, where they found the 16-year-old victim behind the bathroom door hugging a teddy bear.

Officers observed multiple packages of candy and bottles of Durex Massage and Play Jelly. A police officer observed a photo of the 16-year-old victim and Gordon nude.

The 16-year-old victim told police she met Gordon on the mobile app Whisper. They allegedly met in hotel rooms on numerous occasions in Southfield.

When asked if she engaged in sexual intercourse with the defendant, she smiled, giggled and hid her face in the stuffed animal.

Gordon admitted there were images of himself and the 16-year-old victim nude on his cell phone. He admitted to possessing video of himself and the victim engaged in sexual activity in the hotel room.

Investigators say he has a prior arrest for having sex with an underage girl when he was in his twenties.

On August 29, the FBI task force and SFPD obtained records from the Marvin Garden Inn and Red Roof Inn. The records show he stayed at the hotels on several occasions dating back to 2016.

When investigators reviewed the videos, they discovered numerous photos and videos of the 16-year-old victim and Gordon. File dates indicate the victim was 15 years old at the time of the video recording.
