OAK PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — An Oak Park pain clinic was raided today by the Feds on healthcare fraud charges.

In a federal complaint unsealed today, Dr. Gandam Jayakar and his son Sanjit James Jayakar are alleged to have caused medicare to be billed for thousands in services that were either not medically necessary, never took place, or weren't done by a licensed medical provider.

The clinic's website shows a video of Sanjit James, the office's administrator talking about the services offered, some of which he allegedly provided himself, despite not being a licensed medical professional.

The complaint says he gave “non sterile facet injections” for pain relief, adding that "Sanjit wore non sterile gloves, that had a tear on one hand” and that
a witness saw him "wipe his nose then with the same hand, proceed to pick up the needle and insert it into the patient.”

Although Sanjit James claimed to be a medical doctor, the complaint says he failed to correct anyone who addressed him as one.

Now that the father son duo have been charged, they are expected them to appear in federal court at an undetermined date. As for when this clinic is set to re-open, it’s unclear but likely not in the near future.
