Students surpassed expectations at Athens Troy Charity Week.
Charity Week is a yearly tradition at Athens Troy High School. Every year, students pick a charity and set a fundraising goal. This year, they surpassed their goal, by a lot, with a charity close to their hearts.
The Jenna Kast Believe in Miracles Foundation is a charity named for a girl who would be graduating with this group, if cancer had not cut her life short six years ago.
"It's been six years since she passed so they haven't forgotten, said Paula Kast, Jenna’s mom.
She’s moved by the work the students have done at Athen’s Troy in her daughter’s honor.
"To know that she's really still a part of this class, she never left,” said Kast.
The goal of this year’s Charity Week was to raise $100,000 for the Jenna Kast Believe in Miracles Foundation, but instead students raised more than $155,000.
Now the work the charity does will be doubled in the next year.
"We grant second wishes for kids like Jenna who have had a reoccurrence or an ongoing condition,” said Kast.
Which means double the wishes for kids battling cancer here in Michigan, wishes like shopping sprees, princess parties, and even trips to Disney World. All that money will but mean the organization will need more volunteers. If you’d like information, you can head to the website.
