GARDEN CITY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Leading the Pledge of Allegiance is exciting for any student who gets the opportunity, and that could not be more true for 3-year-old Jayden Perez of Garden City.

Jayden is the first preschooler and the first special needs student to make the announcement at Lathers Elementary School in Garden City.

Jayden’s mother, Angelina Perez, says her son has been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism and childhood bi-polar disorder.

“It was amazing cause he is special needs and it just brought so much joy to him you can see it in the video he was just so happy,” said Perez.

Perez says the school sent a letter home to her letting her know he would be making the announcement.

They were able to practice together, despite a hospital stay just a week before he made the Pledge of Allegiance.

“This was just for Jayden and he can do it at his own pace, and it was just everybody was able to pay attention to him and it was just amazing,” said Perez
