Clown sighting prompts University of Michigan-Dearborn to issue campus security bulletin

Clowns. They're everywhere this week. In Dearborn, the police department at the University of Michigan-Dearborn issued a security bulletin today due to a clown sighting on campus.

Campus police say a man wearing a white clown mask was spotted, "close to the trees, in the field between the University Center and the Mardigian Library around midnight October 4, 2016."

They describe the clown as about 6-feet tall with an average build. He was wearing dark clothing along with his mask.

"Please use caution if you observe any Clowns, due to the recent activity around Southeast Michigan. Please contact our department immediately," said the security bulletin issued by campus police.

In addition to the clown's description UM-Dearborn police also provided a short list of "risk reduction strategies" for students and staff:

RISK REDUCTION STRATEGIES

o Be aware of your surroundings and look assertive

o Walk with a friend or co-worker in well-lit areas

o Trust your intuition – if a particular situation makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, choose an alternative

o Utilize campus transportation resources

o If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light emergency phone or call 9-1-1 from any phone
