Gas prices dip below $2 at some stations

Posted

You certainly won't find it everywhere, but gas prices in some spots in the metro area have dipped below the $2 mark.

Regular was selling for $1.98 Monday morning in Dearborn at the Speedway station on Outer Drive just south of Michigan Avenue. The price had been that low since last week, according to several drivers who spoke with 7 Action News.

"It is my day today," said Aimee Sturgill, who filled up her mini-van. "I was very excited. Very, very excited to see it under two dollars. I just filled up my mini-van for 36 dollars," she said happily.

Nancy Grocholski is on the road constantly for her sales job.

"I drive about 2,500 miles a month for my sales position and when I see gas for $1.98, I wish I could take some home with me."

Grocholski lives in White Lake.  She said gas prices always seem to be higher in Oakland County.

Kroger on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn was also selling gas for $1.98 and had steady traffic at the pump. Prices were much higher elsewhere. The cash price for regular was $2.79 at a station at Eight Mile Road and Southfield, 10 cents higher for credit purchases.

By the end of the day, the price was raised at the Speedway on Outer Drive to $2.09 per gallon.
