Neighbors of the 22-year-old man shot Sunday by his father said they knew of problems between the two for a while, and some even contemplated alerting authorities as recently as last month.

Maurice Brown, a friend and neighbor of the victim, said the man recently moved out of his parent’s home on Mercedes because of ongoing problems with his dad.

“I used to let him sleep on the floor. He’d come home at night and sleep on the floor right here, and I guess yesterday, the dad just couldn’t take it no more or something," Brown said.

Brown added, even as recently as last month, his friend’s younger siblings alleged abusive behavior at the home.
"All of them kids over there, were A students, straight-A students. very good students. Don’t see where the problem came in," he said.

Brown and other neighbors reported hearing a gunshot around 5 p.m. Sunday, and saw the victim’s girlfriend run outside for help.

She told them the 22-year-old was trying to stop his father from hurting his younger brother.

“He pushed his father off of his little brother because apparently he was punching him in the face, going kind of brutal and he seen it and he grabbed his father off of his brother and the father ran and grabbed his shotgun," Brown described.

Next-door neighbor Dre Wallace said he rushed to the house and saw the victim on the floor while his father admitted to and justified the shooting.

The victim is recovering in the hospital.

Redford Township police arrested his father, and said charges could come Tuesday or Wednesday.
