Police investigate deadly shooting outside Highland Park Dollar General

Highland Park Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in the parking lot of a Dollar General Thursday night. 

“It really hurts me, it really hurts me really bad,” said Demetrius Kelley who lives near where the shooting happened. 

Highland Park police tell 7 Action News the shooting happened around 5:00 p.m. 

They are still investigating what lead up to the shooting, and say they do have someone in custody. 

“I shop over here. I live in this area, so it’s kinda of scary,” said Angela Alston who shops at the Dollar General. 

Police are looking for people who might have witnessed the shooting, especially those who were at the bus stop at the time. 

“When our police officers showed up, the bus arrived, and everybody got on the bus,” said Marli Blackman, Press Secretary for the City of Highland Park.
