Tempers are flaring in Allen Park over plans to move ahead with a new police station and city hall.

Officials voted 5-2 in favor of a new police station and City Hall. The decision came with lots of controversy."

In a special session of Allen Park City Council, people came to voice feelings over a purchase agreement for a new police station and city hall.

Given Allen Park is still emerging from bankruptcy, some citizens we talked to voiced strong opposition to spending $1.75 million to remodel an older building off Southfield Road - especially since it needs millions more in renovations and won't have a gun range for police to use, like many other cities.

We've seen anger over big budget deals here before.

A previous city administration was blamed for leading the city into a financial disaster, partially due to a failed investment in a multi-million dollar movie studio.

The police and city leaders are currently paying to rent this building after being forced to leave their old building due to dangerous safety concerns.

The city still has 120 days to finalize this deal.
