Plymouth Township police are looking for the person responsible for stealing bowling equipment from a high school girl's team.
That team is from Jackson and was in town, competing at the state tournament.
After placing second at the state high school bowling championships, the team went back to their hotel to celebrate, but their joy was short lived. Thieves got away with expensive bowling balls.
This comes after someone broke into the Jackson High School girls bowling team's trailer, as they stayed at the Comfort Inn on Ann Arbor Road Thursday and Friday.
The equipment retails for around $3,000.
Super Bowl general manager Doug Sewesky said, "It can get very, very expensive when you start talking about the bowling balls, all the newer equipment."
Saturday morning, the team's coach discovered the trailer open in parking lot and more than a dozen bowling balls and bags gone.
Detective Charlie Rozum of Plymouth Township Police explained, "I think it was just a random act. Nobody knows what people have in their trailers and they just cut the lock on the trailer and in this case they found bowling balls."
He continued, "It's been our experience with sports equipment. They actually take it to a resale place. Like "play it again sports" or something like that to get money for it."
Hotel officials would not comment on camera but say they are cooperating with police and have handed over surveillance video, in hopes of catching the suspect or suspects.
A bowling equipment company is offering to replace the stolen goods -- while others have made donations to the team.
