HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Harper Woods police say an active situation triggered by officers searching for a suspect in a shooting that took place Thursday morning in the area of Woodcrest and Lansdowne is no longer an active scene.

Police say the situation began at about 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning when they were called to the area of Woodland and Kelly where a woman who had been shot was inside a vehicle. She was taken to the hospital and is being treated.

Police say they believe there is a personal connection involved in the shooting and that it was not a random act.

Shortly after that first call, officers went to the 18900 block of Woodcrest after getting information that the shooting may have happened there. They found evidence at the scene and began to search for a suspect. They also identified a home that may be connected to the suspect.

Because of the nature of the incident, they activated the Eastern Wayne Special Response Team, which made entry into the home, but did not find the suspect.

Several schools were put on lockdown in the area as a precaution while the search was conducted. The lockdowns were lifted at 12:10 p.m., according to police.

Police say the lockdown is a standard procedure when an incident happens nearby, and it is not school-related.

Residents were asked to shelter in place and other people were asked to avoid the area of Kelly/Woodcrest/Lansdowne while the investigation was underway.
