(WXYZ) — Richard Baird, one of the nine former Michigan public officials charged in the Flint water investigation, announced his resignation from the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents, according to the university.

His resignation is effective immediately.
Baird wrote a letter to Board Chair Eunice Jeffries announcing the resignation and said it was "in the best interests of the University."

The university said Baird was appointed to the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents in November 2018.
