DETROIT (WXYZ) — Rickie Fowler has unofficially confirmed that he'll be playing in the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic in June.

"I'm definitely excited about being up there in Detroit," Fowler said Monday. "The Tour hasn't been there in, I think it's been 10 years or so."

In May, it was announced that the Detroit Golf Club will host the PGA Tour under a four-year contract starting in June 2019. The PGA Tour was last held in Michigan in 2009.

"We're gonna do our best to try to get the best field we can and push the event, and hopefully have a great turnout up there," Fowler said. "I know Detroit's obviously a great sporting town, so see if we can pull some golf fans from, not just Detroit, but the areas and to see what Dan Gilbert and Quicken Loans and everything they've been doing in the Detroit area and trying to build the city back up a bit."

The Rocket Mortgage Classic will be played June 27 - 30.
