With few residents, Forester Street near Farr has become a popular spot for dumpers.
Matt Gregory has watched his neighborhood be turned into a dumping ground. Just about every day, he and others wake to find more piles of dumped debris.
Recently, while on his way to the store, Gregory spotted a U haul truck stopped on the side of the road. A few minutes later, four guys jumped out and started tossing wood and construction debris.
Fed up, Gregory confronted the guys, who he believed to be from nearby Hamtramck.
Before he knew it, Gregory says one of the men grabbed a piece of wood and busted his windshield. It cost him a day of work and $105.00 to get the windshield replaced.
The long time Detroit resident isn’t going to back down. He reported the incident to police and would like cameras to be installed in the neighborhood to catch the criminals.
He believes the constant illegal dumping has contributed to the decline of the neighborhood because caring residents were tired of dealing with the nasty nuisance.
You can report illegal dumping, scrapping or graffiti by calling the tip line, 313-235-4359 or by emailing scrapgrafdump@detroitmi.gov.
