ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Royal Oak City Commissioner Kim Gibbs has died, her Facebook page announced Thursday.
Gibbs was reportedly in a car accident on Aug. 1 where her vehicle was totaled. Although she initially reported just being shaken up by the incident, by the following Tuesday, she was reportedly no longer responding to text messages.
Her mother found her lying unconscious on Wednesday and called for paramedics; she was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak where she never regained consciousness.
Gibbs reportedly suffered a seizure.
In April, Gibbs was asked to resign as a commissioner after she was spotted protesting the stay-at-home order at the Capitol building. She was ultimately censured by the board.
Gibbs was reportedly under "constant distress, anxiety, depression and the inability to sleep."
