ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a barricaded gunman situation in Royal Oak.

The incident began around 2 p.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Oliver, just west of Crooks Road. A 34-year-old man, who was intoxicated, assaulted his father and barricaded himself in the house. The Royal Oak Police Department attempted to convince the suspect to come out peacefully, but the suspect threatened to shoot police, and that he rigged the doors to the home to stop the officers from entering.

The Oakland County SWAT team took over the investigation at 4 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the suspect was near the front door and aimed his gun at police. That is when a member of the SWAT team shot him. The suspect was taken to the hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

Police say he died at the hospital from his injuries on Sunday.
