(WXYZ) — The Salvation Army Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center will reopen its donation centers on Monday, June 1.
Donations of gently used clothing, linens, household appliances, furniture, toys, shoes, purses and housewares will be accepted at select Salvation Army Family Thrift Store Donation Centers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Residential pickup service will resume at a later date.
Donation centers have always been contactless and will continue to do so during this time. Individuals must remain in their vehicle while employees wearing PPE will retrieve donations from the trunk. All donations should be clearly labeled to avoid confusion. Donors are encouraged to wear a face mask or cover while dropping off their items. If someone is feeling under the weather, they should wait to donate until they are feeling better.
Tax receipts will be available upon request and will the only point of contact with a Salvation Army employee. Clipboards and pens will be sanitized after every use.
Once the State of Michigan’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order is lifted, southeast Michigan Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores will resume business in a limited capacity. The nonprofit is currently working on a reopening plan to keep its employees and customers safe:
All employees will have their temperature taken at the beginning of every shift and will wear PPE.
- Plexiglass will be installed at each cash register with contactless payment options available.
- Stores will be sanitized regularly, as well as cleaning the cash register area after every customer.
- Face masks or coverings will be required for every shopper over the age of 2.
- Fitting rooms will be temporarily closed.
- All donations will be quarantined for 72 hours before employees begin processing them for the sales floor.
Donations to the Family Thrift Stores benefit The Salvation Army Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center’s independently funded, 180-day residential rehabilitation program for men and women, which has continued to be operational during the COVID-19 pandemic.
