Southbound lanes are now open after a fatal accident on I-275 in Van Buren Township early Tuesday.
Police say troopers were dispatched to a two-car, no injury crash at Ecorse. As troopers were responding, the woman driving the at-fault vehicle was struck by a vehicle as she tried to cross the roadway.
The not-at-fault driver from the original crash pulled their car from the right shoulder onto the roadway in an attempt to block the woman from being struck by any more cars, police say.
A short time later, that vehicle was hit by another vehicle.
Police say alcohol or drugs may be involved in the initial crash. They are still investigating.
