Posted

Authorities say a single-engine plane has crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Atlantic City and the Coast Guard is in a search and rescue mode.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane departed from Gaylord, Michigan, today, and was headed to Atlantic City International Airport.

The FAA says the Mooney M20 reportedly crashed around 2:45 p.m. and a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said a debris field has been found 17 miles off the coast of Atlantic City.

Public Affairs Chief Nick Ameen says the Coast Guard is in an active search and rescue mode with multiple boat crews and a helicopter crew.

There were no details immediately available on the condition of anyone aboard the plane.
