Metro Detroit's next snow storm will have some really poor timing. Look for the snow to get going after midnight and continuing off and on into the morning hours. This will make a mess of the rush hour commute for much of the area, causing slick roads and slow downs. Due to this inconvenience, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory tonight into Wednesday evening.
Breaking Down the Totals:
The advisory is not for the entire metro area, since the heaviest snow shown above is for locations north of Detroit. These locations will have the best chance of seeing snow amounts around 3" - 5". For Detroit and areas to the south, snowfall will be just as inconvenient but with lower totals.
Timing and Impacts:
The snow will start west of Detroit and then spread across the area from west to east. The heaviest snow will be from 5 am to 10 am, where the majority of the accumulation will take place. The intensity will diminish during the afternoon but the roads will remain slick for the drive home even though visibility will improve.
