(WXYZ) — The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency is holding nearly a dozen educational and outreach sessions across the state this month aimed at promoting and encouraging participation in the licensed marijuana market.
During the visits, the MRA will talk about the social equity program and application and licensing process for recreational marijuana. The agency's social equity representatives will be on hand to help people complete the social equity application, with allows the MRA to figure out if a person qualifies for participation.
Those who are allowed to participate allows someone to get up to 60 percent off application fees, the initial license fees, future renewal fees and more. Those calculate as follows for applicants:
- 25% reduction for those who have been a resident of one of the 19 disproportionally impacted communities for the past five years AND whose marijuana establishments will be located in disproportionately impacted communities.
- An additional 25% reduction if the individual(s) holding majority ownership have been a resident of one of the 19 disproportionally impacted communities for the past five years AND have a marijuana-related conviction.
- An additional 10% reduction if the individual(s) holding majority ownership have been a resident of one of the 19 disproportionally impacted communities for the past five years AND were registered as primary caregivers for at least two years between 2008 and 2017.
