(WXYZ) — A Michigan State Police patrol car was side swiped by a semi truck traveling westbound on I-96 Monday afternoon. There were no injuries reported, however, state police are using this as a reminder to drivers that it's the law to move over for stopped police vehicles.
Troopers who were assigned to the Metro South Post were on westbound I-96 near Michigan Avenue closing a lane due to a crash.
The patrol cars mirror and front passenger was hit, which broke the axle and detached the tire. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The semi driver was cited for “Failure to Yield for a stationary emergency vehicle”.

A semi truck traveling westbound side swiped the patrol car, hitting the cruiser's side mirror and its front passenger side, which broke the axle and detached the tire.
The semi-truck driver was given a citation for failure to yield for a stationary emergency vehicle. Michigan's newly expanded Move Over law went into effect in February, requiring drivers to slow down to 10 miles per over and move over a lane. Failure to do so could result in an up to $400 fine.
