Stone Temple Pilots to play Sunday at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Sunday the 2019 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix will be rocking as Stone Temple Pilots will perform a matinee concert ahead of the race on Sunday, June 2 on Belle Isle.

The race announced the concert on Monday morning, and all fans with tickets to Sunday will be able to see the free show on the entertainment stage.

Jeff Gutt, from Marine City, is the new lead singer of STP, and he joined in 2017 joining brothers and founding band members Dean DeLeo and Robert DeLeo, along with Eric Kretz.

The released an album, "Stone Temple Pilots," last year and it reached No. 4 on the Billboard Rock Album chart.

“We’re so excited to welcome Stone Temple Pilots to Belle Isle,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “STP will rock the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear Entertainment Stage and get our fans fired up before we host the final race of an action-packed weekend in the Motor City.”

The concert will take place around 1 p.m. before the race begins at 3:30 p.m.

Country star Frankie Ballard will perorm on Saturday after the first race on Belle Isle. He's a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., and blends country music and an American heartland rock sound.
