Study: Proposed Detroit soccer stadium would bring in $2.4 billion

Rock Ventures is putting some big numbers on the table to support its proposal for a new soccer stadium and criminal justice complex in Detroit.

A U of M study puts the economic impact at nearly $2.4 billion and points to the creation of more than 2,100 permanent jobs.

Developer Dan Gilbert wants to construct the stadium on Gratiot where the unfinished Wayne County jail sits and build a justice complex on east Forest.

The study says the economic impact of just finishing the jail as it stands right now would be $2 billion less.

At this point, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans is not sold on the findings.

He called the study meaningless and said it does not sway his thoughts about Gilbert's proposal.
